Educational

The first priority of our instructors when the students arrive each day is to assist the children with the completion of their daily homework assignments. Afterwards, the students may get involved in activities that will strengthen their reading, spelling and math skills while exploring other areas of general instruction. Computer skills are also taught in our on-site computer lab. Our Executive Director and staff are committed to working closely with each child’s public school teacher. A major goal of our educational team is to increase the overall academic achievement record each year for every student.

Motivational

The ASYDC staff is committed to presenting a variety of motivational encounters for our participants. Each week the children have a special guest who works in the Greater Charlotte Metropolitan area. The guest come in and talk about their particular profession or vocation and the requirements to succeed. They attempt to relate to the students on thier level and keep things light and entertaining. This permits the students to be exposed to a wide variety of professions and service areas and opens the opportunity for additional dialogue, reading and discovery activities. These weekly presentations serve to inspire, encourage, and challenge each child to see many possibilities for the future.

Enrichment

Additional programs that the students may particpate in, are: Introduction to the Spanish language; Learning to “Live Green”; Chess Classes and competition, and quarterly field trips to experience cross-cultural educational and fun venues in the Charlotte area. All experiences are structured to strengthen life skills and character building.
